16 REPORT OF THE DIRECTORS OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRES

Today, officials from 16 scientific and technological centers of CONICET shared the working day “Federal Network of Technological Linkage of CONICET: Planning our future”, with various workshops, talks and space for discussion. At that time, the Directors of CCT decided to issue the following statement:

In a few days our country has to take a fundamental decision that could change its destiny. Directors of CONICET’s 16 Science and Technology Centers express our concern for the future of our country.

We, the undersigned, belong to very different ideological, political, moral and methodological preferences. However, today we prioritize the need to strengthen consensus to protect the interests of our citizens.

The proposals of a candidate and their allies aim to undermine the fundamental principles on which our democracy was founded. From here we want to demand free public education, culture and unconditional protection of human rights. Likewise, we affirm that science is the engine of development and the foundation of national sovereignty. Scientific development protects and expands the rights of citizens to build and strengthen democracy, without denying climate change, contributing to upward social mobility and social and environmental sustainable development.

The proposal of a country without CONICET, without public universities, without public schools or hospitals, challenges us about the role we play as a science sector and the role knowledge plays in the development of our country. We still have many challenges, many issues to improve, but we cannot achieve a better country by abolishing the state.

That’s why we talk about Sergio Tomás Massa as the leader of the nation.
