The first glorious look at ‘the end of Star Wars as we know it’ has been revealed, and my oh my isn’t it a joy seeing Rey (played by Daisey Ridley) burst into a short sprint and then do a back-flip on a moving fighter. The title for the next Star Wars episode title was unveiled at a Celebration Event which was beamed live across the globe, from Chicago, Illinois in the United States, barely 48 hours after parent company, The Walt Disney Company, announced its impending Disney+ streaming platform.
While the characters are familiar; from the dark and rogue, no pun intended, Kylo Ren (played by Adam Driver), to the charismatic and hands-on Poe (Oscar Issac) and Finn (John Boyega) – the trailer in itself treats fans to the unfamiliar, plenty more of sights, sounds and scenes across the galaxy that increasing the stakes for the remnants of the Jedi, and the Sith.
From the Chicago event, it’s interesting to reveal that Emperor Palpatine (voiced by Ian McDiamird), is making a comeback – he’s that guy you can hear cackling loudly at the end of the trailer, even though we thought he had perished in ‘Return of the Jedi’.
It’s great to see that the late Carrie Fisher‘s character Leia lives on in this Episode, using previously unseen footage that had been taken before her demise in 2016, Director JJ Abrams revealed at the Chicago Celebration event. Just as ‘the force is with us’, no one is ever truly gone, they enthused.
Actress Lupita Nyong’o also returns to the Star Wars universe, according to an IMdB listing, to voice the quirky yet concise Maz Kanata.
Star Wars Episode XI: The Rise of Skywalker is due for release later this year in December.
