South African musician Master KG‘s ambition of clocking 100 million views on YouTube with his mega hit, Jerusalema (featuring vocalist Nomcebo) is now a reality, making him the first artist on the continent to do so this year.

Jerusalema joins the ranks of Burna Boy‘s On The Low, Yemi Alade‘s Johnny and Davido‘s Fall which all enjoy the exclusive rank of over one hundred million views on YouTube in Africa. The single is easily among the continent’s biggest exports this year, alongside Burna Boy’s recently released album ‘Twice as Tall’ which is already making waves across the globe. The album features East Africa’s very own Sauti Sol.

Master KG took to Twitter on Thursday 27th August, beaming with pride at what is a remarkable feat.

“I still can’t believe it. Thank you world for making it possible,” he wrote. Jerusalema was released on 29th November 2019, with a remix thereafter featuring Burna Boy unveiled in June of this year.

To local South African media, Master KG said he was thrilled to see Jerusalema breaking records and inspiring people all over the world.

“I am so happy. It hasn’t sunk in yet. It feels like a dream. I am so happy that SA can celebrate this together. I don’t know what it is that made it so big but we are so grateful for every single stream we got.

The track has further featured on music charts as far and wide as Belgium, Australia and India, thanks in part to its popularity on the mega video sharing platform, TikTok.
