A Board of Directors of the Commission for Science, Technology, Innovation and the Future was created

The Permanent Advisory Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation and the Future has constituted its Board of Directors. As such, Senator Jose Oviedo was elected president. The meeting was held live and in person.

In the same context, Senators Patrick Kemper and Louis Pettengill were elected Vice-President and Rapporteur respectively.

Similarly, Senators Eduardo Nakayama, Juan Carlos Calaverna (H), Yellow President and Lizarella Valinte are members of this legislative event.

In this regard, Senator Jose Oviedo, who was elected as the President of the Commission, pointed out that there are several topics to be created based on science and technology. This commission will promote public policies focused on new technologies that will promote the growth of our country.

“Technology should help create wealth. We have a lot of talent in our country and we want to tap into it. It is also important to recognize the potential threats that little-known technologies can represent,” said the legislator.

He also pointed out that 50% of the income of some developed countries comes from technological development. “Since our agriculture and livestock, the main sources of income of our country, have already reached their limit, we must look for new ways to generate wealth,” he stressed.

On the other hand, he cited some key issues to be addressed by the Commission in matters related to the protection of personal data and information technologies.

In turn, Senator Patrick Kemper, the Commission’s Vice-Chairman-elect, recognized the importance of working with interested parties based on the nature of each Commission. He also highlighted the importance of restarting digital transformation projects and monitoring the development of the digital agenda.

“One of the first steps is to contact MITIC to update us on the status of projects promoted by this organization to see where we stand,” he noted.

For his part, Senator Luis Bettengil highlighted the importance of this commission to promote technologies and innovations, citing successful cases in other countries as examples. “I agree with taking samples from other countries that have more advanced technical tools, like Colombia,” he said.

The constitution of this parliamentary event was proposed by Senators Juan Carlos Luis Calaverna (H), Yellow Leader, Yolanda Paredes, José Oviedo, Eduardo Nakayama and Sergio Rojas Sosa and approved by the plenary on November 15.
