A NASA crew leaves their capsule after a year in a simulation of a trip to Mars.

The NASA Mars crew emerged from their capsule after a year-long journey without leaving Earth.

Four volunteers spent more than 12 months inside the first simulated Martian environment at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, and left the artificial alien environment around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Kelly Haston, Anka Selariu, Rose Brockwell and Nathan Jones entered the 3D-printed habitat on June 25, 2023 as the first team from the Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analogue (CHAPEA) project.

Mission Commander Haston began with a simple “hello.”

“It’s wonderful to say ‘hello’ to all of you,” he added.
