Agritech companies from Murcia region explore Australian and New Zealand markets – Murcia Actualitad

Regional exports to Australia grew by 22 per cent last year, led by agri-food and machinery.

Half a dozen companies from the region of Murcia in the agricultural technology sector have participated this week in a direct mission to Australia and New Zealand organized by the Development Institute (Information) of the Ministry of Business, Social Economy and Self-Employment. In order to explore the possibilities offered by both markets.

Despite the two markets at antipodes, regional exports to Australia grew by 22 per cent last year, particularly products from the agri-food and machinery sectors.

The companies that traveled were Ritec, Econex, Fervalle, Grovers, Soluplastic, Huete company already had a virtual mission a few months ago. The participants in this mission have a closed agenda, in which on average they attend about ten business interviews throughout their stay, with large distributors and companies dedicated to agribusiness.

Each company costs about 2,000 euros, while information, in the form of a grant from the European Regional Development Fund, has financed most of the direct work. Thus, the information, within the framework of the foreign promotion program, works jointly with the Chambers of Commerce of Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca, accommodation, flights, internal transfers and the organization and management costs of the work, as well as business agendas, among other aspects.

The region of Murcia was the eighth exporter to the country by the Spanish autonomous communities, with a market share of 2.37 percent. A total of 210 regional companies are expected to do business with Australia by 2022. Murcian exports to Australia, with a potential consumer of 25 million, amount to almost 39 million euros. The main products exported from the region of Murcia are mainly food, machinery and energy, materials and additives for making containers and packaging and equipment, components and parts for the automotive industry.

As far as New Zealand is concerned, the export figure is 4.49 million Euros. The main products exported from the Murcia region are chemical products, sugar and confectionery products, food ingredients and additives and frozen meat and offal. By autonomous communities, the region of Murcia was the eleventh exporter for the country with a market share of 1.54 percent. A total of 62 Murcian companies did business with New Zealand in 2022.

The agricultural technology sector brings together around 200 companies in the Region of Murcia with a turnover of around 1,000 million euros and employing around 3,500 workers.
