An Israeli military operation in the West Bank killed five people and left several prisoners, the Palestinian News Agency reported.
The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that five people were killed during an Israeli military attack on the Noor al-Shams refugee camp in Dulkarm, north of the occupied West Bank.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Thursday night that the operation began “to counter terrorism in Nur al-Shams” and that “so far forces have eliminated several terrorists, detained several wanted persons, searched buildings and found explosives.”
It appears to be one of the largest operations in the West Bank since October 7.
Video obtained by CNN showed gunfire Saturday morning and new Israeli reinforcements advancing toward the camp.
One of the dead was a child, the other a 16-year-old, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
Wafa cited testimony that the Israeli army “held the bodies of the victims and prevented ambulance crews from reaching them.” CNN has contacted the IDF for comment on the operation, including this claim.
Wafa reported that the army surrounded Nur al-Shams after launching the offensive on Thursday night, “positioning military vehicles on all axes leading to the camp and closing the main road while reconnaissance aircraft flew over the area.”
Bulldozers destroyed water and sewage networks and cut off electricity, according to Wafa, detaining “dozens of youths”.
A video obtained by CNN shows several young men being loaded into Israeli military vehicles.
