Futuro 2024 Congress is becoming a national mega event

Everything is ready! We have the date, venue, areas, exhibitors, themes, free tickets and a new and innovative program… Now what do we do?

It is time to think, reflect, discover and communicate. Can you imagine watching a speaker talk about artificial intelligence and then diving into the metaverse – minutes later – in the same place? Enjoy science outreach workshops or find a book by an expert on the same topic, just a few meters away from you?

Be prepared. Congresso Futuro 2024 has already thought of that for you!

Life experiences that allow all visitors – science and knowledge, interactive and cross-cutting, is a new and innovative commitment, the 13th edition of this unique event in Latin America and one of the most important in the world. From January 15 to 20 – will be held in the metropolitan area (at the CEINA Cultural Center) and in all regions of Chile, from Arica to Magallanes.

What do we do now? Over 100 exhibitors, thinkers and scientists will attend this free meeting, organized by the Senate – Commission on Future Challenges – and the Future Meetings Foundation (FEF), under the slogan. Future visions on related topics such as opportunities of AI in human life, food for the future, responsibility of companies behind social networks, genetic modification of animals for human use, coastal habitat and the value of sentient beings, among others.

“The future Congress is good for Chile.” With these words, the President of the Senate, Juan Antonio Coloma, highlighted the hosting of the 13th edition of the Assembly of Science and Knowledge held every January in our country. “This is one of the positive rituals where they show us that a country, a society, beyond what it is experiencing, has a future, hope and the will to do different things,” Senator Coloma said.

Senator Ximena Rincón, chairperson of the Commission on Future Challenges, recalled that this position was born in 2011, in the same legislative body that she currently directs. “We never thought about the strength it would take, we never imagined that we were going to create a giant, the strength that future congresses will have cannot be measured (…) The topic of this 2024: What are we doing now?, among the most relevant issues being established in the world today. It is related and anticipated with discussion of the future, as it always has been.”

For Guido Girardi, Executive Vice President of the Encuentros del Futuro Foundation, “The challenge of this year’s Congress of the Future is ethical discussions about this technology, with the understanding that we are experiencing an evolution with artificial intelligence. Can become an asset or create risks and threats.”

According to Felipe Gast, a senator who is a member of the Commission on Future Challenges, “having this meeting with science and knowledge” gives pride to the country (…) In addition, I think it is true that we take care of it. Being a cross space in its entirety means that this company is not at risk, companies have moments of cycles when they lend themselves to the political use of some sector or another, which is why it is so important to take care of it. ,” he concluded.

Future Congress in the Regions

Congreso Futuro has been taking place in the regions since 2016 with the aim of spreading this great gathering of science and thought across the country. Its aim is to allow territories to be part of the debate about science, technology and future society.

This 2024 and for the second year in a row, there will be a Congresso Futuro throughout Chile, said Alfonso de Urresti, a member of the Future Challenges Commission. “We will be with a remarkable line-up of international, national and local exhibitors from Arica and Barinacota to Magellan and Chilean Antarctica, with topics that are in demand and directly linked to the regions,” he pointed out.

In the third week of January, future regional congresses will be held: Arica and Parinakota (Tuesday, January 16); Tarapaka (Tuesday, January 16); Antofagasta (Wednesday, January 17); Atacama (Tuesday, January 16); Coquimbo (Wednesday, January 17); Valparaiso (Tuesday, January 16); O’Higgins (Thursday, January 18); Male (Thursday, January 18); Ñuble (Wednesday, January 17); Pio Pio (Tuesday, January 16); Araucania (Tuesday, January 16); Los Rios (Friday, January 19); Los Lagos, (Wednesday, January 17); Eisen, General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (Friday, January 19); Magellan and Chile Antarctica (Monday, January 15).

It should be noted that this deployment of science and knowledge throughout our country is carried out by the joint work of universities, research centers and regional public institutions.

The Congress of the Future – organized by the Senate and the Encuentros del Futuro Foundation – has been characterized throughout its history by inviting more than a thousand scientists, thinkers and inventors who have clarified the possible future of humanity.. .What can we say? Will this version 13 come?

International Exhibitors

From January 15 to 20, 2024 – more than 100 exhibitors from all over the world, including Chile and national science, will meet at the CEINA Cultural Center and in the country’s regions. We will have some guests connected to the area of ​​philosophy: Dale Jamieson, expert in environmental ethics and animal rights, who will talk to us about sentient beings; And Bruce Allin, an expert in negotiations and international diplomacy, will make you think about the dangers of not listening and not thinking about the future.

In the AI ​​area, we will be visited by AI and linguist Laurence DeVillers, who will take us through the path of AI ethics and how it interacts with humans. He asks us, who is responsible for the problems and applications that new technologies cause?

For neuroscience, they will be visited by Stanislaus Dehaene, psychologist, neuroscientist and pioneer in understanding how the brain works through synapses.

National Exhibitors

In National Science, local and regional academics, scientists, thinkers and innovators, as well as those outside Chile, will analyze the possible futures of humanity in various areas.

Among the guests are Luis Emilio Pizarro, Executive Director of Medicines for Neglected Diseases, who was recently honored with the prestigious “Asturias Award” in Spain; Carolina Martinez, expert in coastal evolution, natural hazards and environmental adaptation; Laura Perez, a Chilean astronomer specializing in radio astronomy; Sergio Parisville, architect and urban planner; Andrés Mitnik, Industrial Civil Engineer and CEO of Strang; Claudia López, Computer Civil Engineer and Doctor in Information Science and Technology; and Frane Zilic, an architect whose work focuses on wood construction and sustainability.
