Hankook Tire technology and design excellence recognized at iF Design Award 2023

World’s leading tire company Hankook Tire has won four iF Design Awards in three categories including Product, Professional Concept and Communication at the iF Design Award 2023.. Hankook Tire’s innovative design achievements such as iON evo, an EV-only tire and Wheel Bot, a robotic wheel system, were recognized at the event.

The ION evo is the high performance tire from Hankook Tire’s world first fully exclusive iON EV tires. It offers a comfortable ride with a focus on low noise technology and features special low noise technology to provide a comfortable ride and adopts a stylish graphic design that incorporates an ion shape for a futuristic look. Developed with a target audience of premium, high-performance electric vehicles from the design stage, the ION evo boasts well-balanced performance without focusing on specific features such as low noise, fuel efficiency and mileage. ION evo has confirmed its position as the flagship product in the dedicated high-performance EV tire segment by winning this year’s iF Design Award and Red Dot Award.

The Professional Concept Award-winning designs, the “Urban Redesign Concept” and the Wheel Pod Robotic Wheel System, were developed as part of Hankook Tire’s “2022 Design Innovation Project,” a research and development project that provides a vision of future mobility.

Reflecting the latest green trend, Hankook Tire presented a visual video proposing “Spatial Shift Mobility (SSM)” with the theme of “Urban Redevelopment” to create a future smart city focusing on people and the environment.

The Wheel Pod shown in the demonstration video is a modular, three-axis driven robotics system that provides optimal mobility for smart mobility. At last year’s “2022 Made in Hong Kong” event, it was praised for going beyond the virtual level by demonstrating Wheel Pod’s real driving technology, and the Wheel Pod video posted on Hankook Tire’s official SNS channel was selected. The video features a combination of SSM, an electromagnetic wheel mobility platform, and a minivan-sized pod that moves three-dimensionally from the road in and out of buildings in a futuristic fashion. The SSM in the video demonstrates flexible space systems to improve energy efficiency, ideal for future green smart cities. It shows the movement vision of Hankook Tire, which is optimized for that city.

Hankook Tire has won 24 awards at the iF Design Awards since 2009. In 2016, it received the Gold Award in the 2016 Concept Design category, the organization’s highest recognition.
