“Memory, Truth and Justice” at the CONICET venue in Tec

In an emotional process led by President Ana Franchi, Vice-Presidents Roberto Riverola and Mario Pecheni and members of the Council’s Memory Commission, the exhibition: “Memory, Truth and Justice” was opened by the Memory Commission in collaboration with CONICET’s Directorate of Institutional Relations. Through photographs and interactive walls, the work of the Remembrance Commission to recover and repair files and files of members of the organization affected by state terrorism can be showcased. Information from the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Group (EAAF) and Plaza de Mayo Civil Association Pati is also presented.

Thanking the Commission of Remembrance for its inspiring work, Ana Franchi said, “This new location of the Council in Technopolis is important, so that the investigations conducted by the Commission are known by the community and above all, young people know about the terrible situations that happened at CONICET during the dictatorship. We have relatives of some of the arrested-disappeared, and we also have relatives of Isabelle “Dotty” MacDonald, an icon who fought for a better country, who left us recently, but we can continue her legacy. .”

In turn, Vice-President Roberto Riverola said: “We are celebrating 40 years of democracy, but we have also broken 40 years of oblivion by CONICET of what happened to members who disappeared, deported and released with impunity by the military dictatorship. Memory is important, memory comes from the Latin sign: to pass through the heart again. So with these actions, we pass the hearts of many dear friends, some of whom I know, because they have passed away. Not now. In particular, there are Alicia’s daughters from the Institute of Astronomy and Space Physics, where I was going to spend my computer programs when I was a student. With Eduardo Paschini, I was a student and we lived with the professors, because the community of physicists was very small. Because the exchange of memory is essential, we must remind them that it is very important to have many young people working in the Memory Commission and that they know what happened.

Santiago Carrano, coordinator of the Commission, said: “40 years after the return to democracy, it seems necessary that CONICET has a place dedicated to “Memory, Truth and Justice”, and the work that the Commission of Memory has been doing for almost three years and the contribution of science to justice can be seen. Today is very important, because in March 2022 we commemorate the victims of terrorism in the CONICET nation, which we honored with an action, and now among them We include them in this space to reconstruct the life story of Alicia Graciela Cardoso, a technician at IAFE, one of them.A way of remembering is not only to reconstruct its path through the organism, but also to know what happened to it and that it is not forgotten.

The exhibition has two axes: Reparation and Identity, which tells the story of the Remembrance Commission and what it does today for historical reparation. After that a panel/mirror on the screen will send a tribute to the recovered files from the members of the organization affected by state terror. The second print represents the story of Alicia Cardoso, where documents sent by the family from Alicia – like telegrams – and briefly tell her story in graphics. It concludes with the slogan “Science in the service of justice” informed by Patty of the Plaza de Mayo and the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Group (EAAF).

Within this framework, Maria Jimena, daughter of Alicia Cardoso, said: “All the work done by the CONICET Memory Commission in every rescue operation is a great affection for the soul, because the memory and memory of our parents endures, what they did, their struggle and their hopes are not lost in oblivion. It is not only that which remains in our memory, but we feel that our mother’s story is now in all of your hearts. Because the memory of this commission, the great warmth, the great affection, the great respect and that commitment to the establishment of truth and justice is something that we felt with our family.

I have some ideas from this activity, which I want to highlight: the passing of youth and memory from one generation to another, I think is important for these events, which excites children and adolescents in Technopolis and inspires me.
