The General Director explained that the level of development of the 2021-2023 circular economy action plan was “analyzed” in meetings with various island institutions, where, as he pointed out, “we had a high level of ignorance and the lack of coordination of the previous regional administrator.” Something that, as he points out, confirms that “of the more than 160 actions included in that plan, not even ten percent have been fulfilled”, “the Canary Islands have lost four years in terms of the circular economy.” .

“Now we have laid the foundations for this integration and we can make sure that both the Government of the Canary Islands and the Councils are compatible to “move from linearity to circularity”, explained “we” from the Ministry. At the meeting, the consultant assured, “The circular economy is not only that we recycle, but with the help of the government and the council, we encourage companies that recycle in our islands, because what is inefficient from an environmental point of view. We cannot give a new life to the waste, so we have to create a recycling industry in the Canary Islands”, he noted, “an effort that must start from the coordination between the councils and the Government of the Canary Islands”. .

Within the framework of this meeting, various issues such as review of Circular Economy Strategy 2021-2030 and its different programs and future Circular Economy Act were discussed. As Montañes explained, “currently there are many measures aimed at achieving this circularity of the economy, which must be implemented in a coordinated manner without waiting for a law”, pointing out that “these measures must be led by the Ministry of Change.
