Most Latin American currencies posted slight losses on Thursday, as expectations of further interest rate hikes in the United States neutralized the effects of the dollar’s decline, while stock markets showed mixed behavior.
The dollar extended losses on Thursday after data showed US jobless claims rose more than expected last week, although the market was widely seen as consolidating ahead of inflation figures and next week’s Fed rate forecast.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose by 28,000 to a seasonally adjusted 261,000 in the week ended June 3, the Labor Department said Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 235,000.
