Project Khyber announces the option of a private connection to AWS

As part of AWS re:Invent 2023, which runs through December 1 in Las Vegas, Amazon has announced a significant innovation in global connectivity with Project Kuiper.

The project is part of Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite broadband network. Now provides a private connection to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This new functionality will give business and government customers greater flexibility, security and control over their data.

Rajeev Pathyal, Vice President of Technology for Project Kuiper, highlighted the importance of AWS in the development of the project: “The integration with AWS accelerates and scales the implementation of our network and business operations. Using the cloud to power the Kuiper network allows rapid expansion of residential connectivity services to countries around the world And it enables business customers to access the data and services they need from anywhere on the planet.”

Details about Project Kuiper

Project Khyber is an initiative by Amazon to provide fast, affordable broadband services to communities around the world that currently have no or limited access to traditional Internet and communication options.

Amazon deploys thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), connected to a global network of antennas, fiber and ground-based Internet connection points.

The program seeks to connect the billions of people around the world who lack reliable access to broadband, including schools, hospitals, businesses and government institutions in places where there is no reliable connection.

AWS CEO Adam Selipsky highlighted the transformative potential of Project Kuiper at the re:Invent event: “Project Kuiper is a global network of high-speed satellites that will provide connectivity in places where there has been no coverage. Imagine the power to provide the most hard-to-reach places with access to the Internet at the same speed and reliability that most of us take for granted every day. The potential for consumers is enormous, but so are the benefits for companies and governments. With Project Kuiper’s enterprise-ready private connection services, they can move data from virtually anywhere over private, secure connections and reach their data in the AWS cloud using these connections.

Project Kuiper is based in Redmond, Washington, and announced a satellite manufacturing facility in Kirkland, Washington by 2023 to expand production capacity and build five satellites per day.

Additionally, construction began on a satellite processing facility at Kennedy Space Center that will be used to prepare and integrate the Kuiper satellites with Blue Origin and United Launch Alliance (ULA) rockets before launch.
