Putin assures that the Russian economy is developing “better than expected”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin assured on Tuesday that the Russian economy is developing “better than expected” after the country’s Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin promised economic growth to exceed two percent a year.

“We have results, at least for now, cautiously, better than expected, better than forecast. This gives us hope that all the tasks will be solved, at least in the way we set out,” he assured. A meeting with Mishustin, according to Russian agency Interfax.

For his part, the Prime Minister has announced that “if there are no extreme circumstances, we should grow at more than two per cent per annum”.

He also promised to fulfill all social obligations with the people due to the creation of a “special system” to monitor food prices.

“As for inflation, you know the numbers very well, it was 3.4 percent at the beginning of July; according to all experts, it will not exceed 5 percent per year,” Mishustin said.

The head of government also noted that the economy of the country is recovering despite the economic sanctions imposed by many countries due to the invasion of Ukraine.

At the end of March, Putin admitted that these sanctions could “negatively affect” the evolution of the Russian economy, although he went so far as to defend the existence of a generally “positive” trend.

Referring to the reports, US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel bluntly said the sanctions were “harmful”.
