The mayor of Barranquilla says the money was paid to Panam Sports

The mayor of Barranquilla, Alejandro Sar, wrote a message on his Twitter account in which he says: “Panam Sports cannot keep the tax money of Barranquilla residents meant for the promotion of our athletes” And in that he asks that the organization listens “Return to Barranquilla a figure close to 9,000 million pesos, interest and all damages caused to our city by disproportionate actions.”

According to the local leader, “Public resources cannot be lost, they must be recovered and reinvested in honoring our athletes in our boys, Team Barranquilla, training schools and sports stadiums”.

Finally he said “Bureaucracy using money from talent, events and top-level training is unacceptable! Our lawyers are ready to take action, seize accounts, protect local sport and face the ultimate consequences!”

However, the money that Alejandro Sir claims is the two million dollars that Colombia has already transferred to Panam Sports. Ciro Solano, the president of the Colombian Olympic Committee (COC), has had a contractual problem with the position that it will be difficult to recover the amount.

“We're lucky because we didn't sign a $50 million policy. The only thing at stake was $2 million for the rights and $25,000 for the nomination. According to the contract, that money would be forfeited.”He pointed out.

Regarding Sir's request, lawyer Juan Felipe Criollo, consulted by EL TIEMPO, explained the argument and request of the Barranquilla mayor. “It's more politics than law,” And since the country didn't repay Panama, there wasn't much to do about the two million dollars.

According to the expert, in this case there are the same rules as the civil contract, “I mean, it's an agreement of will between the parties, and that agreement becomes law. Along those lines of thinking, there's no way to recover it beyond reaching an agreement out of court and Panam Sports can, voluntarily, give them their money back.”

Basically, there is a situation like Criollo-said when a lease or any kind of contractual relationship is violated because it is violated according to the agreed clause. “That money remains in Panam Sports' hands and there is nothing to recover.”
