Millions of children live on the streets of various cities around the world, and unfortunately, many of them were orphaned at an early age. Fortunately, there are kind-hearted people like Dusaiwe Mkondya who offer them shelter and love. At the age of 23, she became a ‘mom’ to 34 children and her story captivated social media users.
At 23, Tusayiwe Mkhondya, a native of landlocked Malawi in Southeast Africa, has experienced dire circumstances. She was abandoned by her parents when she was nine months old, and at the age of six, when she was with another family, she was sexually abused.
The story of suffering continued into adulthood. When she was 16 years old, Tusai got pregnant and raised her son in complete abandonment.
Despite the obstacles, the young mother overcame adversity and at the age of 18 founded the organization You Are Not Alone, which aims to care for orphans, street children and teenage mothers.
She wakes up at 4:00 am to take care of her 34 ‘kids’.
At home in Malawi, Tusayiwe Mkhondya has adopted 34 children, but offers support to elderly and teenage mothers who – like her – have been abused.
To expose her work and get donations, the young woman sought donations from organizations and pageants GoFundme In May 2022. As explained, the objective was to purchase 15 hectares of land so that the shelters could be built.
In addition, the young woman created a TikTok account to share her daily routine with her adopted children through videos.
“Not all children are abandoned. Some are orphans, some have only one parent, others are abandoned by their parents. “I give them education, power and skills” Tusayiwe Mkhondya explained in one of her videos.
She explains in another clip that the woman starts her work at 4:00am to prepare the day’s meals and then take care of the children.
Users from different nationalities have highlighted the gesture of the African woman and many have pledged to help her.
