Ushuaia joins the list of four municipalities in the country that have decided to ban the installation of antennas for 5G communication technology.. From the capital of Tierra del Fuego, they demand the existence of scientific and environmental studies that guarantee the safety of the radiation connected to these devices.
Promulgated by Mayor Walter Wudow on December 6th, approved by the Deliberative Council, Ordinance No. According to 6317, the city of Ushuaia ““Zone free of radiation from fifth generation communication technology (5G) and all data transmission technology of subsequent generations.”
The initiative was promoted by members of the Citizens Organized to Regulate Telecommunications (CORTE) committee, which documented during legislative debate that many municipal states around the world had passed similar ordinances. For example, in Argentina, “Similar regulations exist in the communes of Lehmann (Santa Fe), Gualequechue (Entre Rios), Azul (Buenos Aires) and Capilla del Monte (Córdoba).
The move will remain in place until medical and scientific studies confirm that the technology promises to exponentially improve the speed and volume of data transfer. It does not pose a risk to human health.
The validity of future studies seeking to reverse this ban is subject to the approval of recognized international bodies. such as the World Health Organization (OMS), the International Commission on the Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Fields (ICBE-EMF), and the Committee on the Scientific and Technological Future of the European Parliament (STOA).
Additionally, the decree expressly prohibits the installation of these 5G technologies until clinical and epidemiological studies are available to ensure their safety. This precautionary measure is based on the “precautionary principle” in health and environmental matters.
