Valencia to receive €855,000 from Europe for its digital technology project Citcom.ai

Valencia City Council will receive 855,251 euros from the European Union for its Citcom.ai project, which aims to bring digital technology closer to various strategic aspects for cities such as the fight against climate change, digitization and artificial intelligence. Citcom.ai has a total budget of 1,710,502 euros and will be developed over the next five years.

Managed by the Valencia City Council's Smart City Office, the project is a tool to provide solutions to major challenges that cities face. Citcom.ai offers technology providers the opportunity to test the latest software developments related to artificial intelligence and hardware technologies (including robotics in AI) in real environments, combining physical and virtual equipment.

In addition, the city of Valencia has been chosen to host one of the three European operational centers of CitCom.ai, the southern supernode of Artificial Intelligence used in smart cities with partners such as Germany, Poland and Italy. The other two “supernodes” are the Nordic one, led by Denmark, and the Central one, led by Belgium.

In this sense, the Councilor for Tourism, Innovation and Investment, Paula Lopet, said that the European Union chose Valencia for this project “It is not a coincidence, it is the result of the work started in 2013. The city in Spain “The first Smart City Platform was launched in the Valencia City Council.”

“We were pioneers – the councilor continued – and this year's work creates a reference for other European cities and other public administrations. With Citcom.ai, Valencia consolidates its leadership in the field of smart cities and artificial intelligence in the European Union.

Solving urban challenges

Artificial intelligence solutions resulting from this project can be implemented in various contexts of municipal administration and development.

Thanks to them, explained Paula Lobet, “we can offer solutions to the great challenges we face as a city, for example in the field of mobility and sustainable transport. We also work on other issues about us, such as urban energy efficiency, with the aim of achieving climate neutrality, or efficient waste management, circular and nature-based solutions with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality.

In the South Supernode, led by the Smart City Service of the Valencia City Council, Los Naves participates as a Municipal Innovation Center, through the Polytechnic University of Valencia, VRAIN (University Institute for Research in Artificial Intelligence, University of Valencia). and companies Nunsys, S2 and Hop Ubiquitous (Libelium).
