Rabiano He made his acting debut at the age of 12 under the direction of the late Renaldo D’More. He won the talent show ‘La Paquita Peruana’ with an eager smile and at the age of 15 he swept the screen with his performance in the TV series ‘Caligula, Avenging Angel’.
“He loved making movies, being in television sets, theater. I really enjoyed it, but it was too intense. If I could, of course I would change a lot of things, but you can’t. After not performing in Peru for 22 years, you are coming back with a powerful role. What was the most challenging part of playing Gregorio Samsa’s mother?
She is a very dysfunctional, ‘abandoned’ mother. I don’t think any mother wants to be like that. The challenge was to break the ideal of the sacrificial mother that everyone has and stop eating to give it to her child.
Stereotypes of the selfless mother are not always broken by passive profiles like Gregorio’s mother. There are those who positively defend individualism.
Correct. And mothers are human, we make mistakes and come to know what unconditional love is. The mother-child bond doesn’t always have to be romantic and ideal.

How are you as a mother?
I am a mother who gives everything. Now he takes care of my kids in Argentina and I’m here. So I come from that school, caring, supportive.
Do you feel like you put your goals as an actress on hold to prioritize your motherhood?
It is a strong responsibility. I’m here now because my kids told me, “Mom, it’s your turn: go ahead and have fun,” but I thought my career and motherhood weren’t compatible. That changed as they grew up and I realized that motherhood can be flexible.
Unlike TV and cinema, theater requires more emotional charge, no cut and start. Are you feeling ready?

A lot of people said it was the best moment of my career and questioned why I left. It might have been the highest moment of my career, but personally I couldn’t take it anymore. I was so sick, with bulimia and anorexia, that I went to Argentina to rehabilitate myself. At one point, I thought there might be something in the industry, but I felt it was something beyond being a public figure. No matter your profession, social class, age and gender, even a kindergarten teacher can hold it.
