Vladimir Cheron tries to reach the Bolivian ambassador's residence to request asylum principle

Former governor of June Vladimir CheronHe was on the run for more than two-and-a-half months and tried to reach the diplomatic headquarters on Saturday. BoliviaAccording to El Comercio sources, the refuge in Lima is to seek political asylum.

According to sources consulted, the National Police warned in the morning that Cerón would be transferred to the Bolivian embassy or, failing that, to the same residence as the Bolivian ambassador, Carlos Aparicio. The two properties – which enjoy diplomatic protection on behalf of the Bolivian government headed by Luis Arce – are located minutes from each other in San Isidro.

Given the information about his immediate asylum at the Bolivian embassy, the PNP high command deployed police officers to prevent him from entering this headquarters due to arrest warrants against him ordered by the Peruvian justice system.

Also, police were stationed near the embassies of Cuba and Venezuela, countries related to Peru Libre, on information that Cerón would seek asylum in another country.

Through his social networks, Ceron called this a “lie” and denied that he was seeking to leave the national territory.

“Why insist on the desire of the rich, who should leave the country? We are going to fight here in our homeland, and Peru Libre will return with the strength born of the people,” indicated one of the publications on their networks.

Since last October 6, Vladimir Cheron has been a fugitive from justice. Junin was sentenced to three years and six months in prison after the Criminal Appeals Chamber of the High Court upheld the conviction against him for effective imprisonment.

He pleaded guilty in two judicial cases to the crime of corruption to the detriment of the regional government of June for the so-called 'Wanka Aerodrome' case. However, when authorities arrived to arrest him at his home in Lima, the former governor had already absconded.

Additionally, on Monday this week, a 36-month detention order was issued for another case in which he is being investigated for money laundering and organized crime.

The Sixth Preparatory Court warned that the former governor was failing to follow the code of conduct after going into hiding several months ago.

At the hearing, the prosecution warned the court that after deciding to move from Junin to Lima, Ceron never lived in the apartment in Linz, which he stated as his real address. “It surprises the judiciary and the fiscal authority,” said attorney Richard Rojas Gomez.
