A powerful earthquake was recorded this Wednesday morning Arequipa, affecting other southern regions such as Ica, Moquegua and Tacna. Regarding communication lines, the mayor warned that they had seen rock slides across the area. The R-106 road, which connects Ablao to the districts of the middle and upper part of Castilla, was the most affected, with only one lane, traffic cut off due to a rock slide, and 9 districts cut off. Arequipa’s coordinator of the Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER), Juan Carlos Burga Regalado, noted that he contacted the technical secretaries of the civil protection department of the municipalities and confirmed that he felt the strong earthquake in the provinces of Cantesuós, Camana and Castilla.
