The group stage of the U-20 World Cup begins to draw to a close with the last day to define the teams. Qualified for round of 16. Starting this Friday, groups A and B met the chosen ones who will continue their story on Argentine soil.
Along those lines, in the early hours of the morning, the Ecuadorian national team dealt a heavy blow with a 9-0 thrashing of Fiji, one of the ‘Cinderellas’ of Group B. The South Americans are a steamroller in this fight. They’ve earned a ticket to the next round of the orbital encounter, where they’re expecting a rival.
He opened a tricolor account through A sensational Ray Bess (6) ended the first half with goals from Jose Klinger (34) and a double, Justin Crowe (36 and 45+5).
The wide disparity between the South Americans and the Oceanians continued in the second half, with Alan Minda (66 and 85), Tommy Sampa (88) and Christopher Zambrano (90+6, a penalty and 90+10). They achieved a historic victory.
By finishing second in the zone, Ecuador will play in the Round of 16 next Thursday against the second-placed team in Group F in Santiago del Estero. It is worth recalling that Gambia, South Korea, France and Honduras are included in this quartet.
The leader of the group is surprisingly Gambia with six units, followed by Korea with four units, Honduras with one and one of the favourites, France in last place with zero.

America also got stronger
The United States beat Slovakia 2-0 in Group B of the U-20 World Cup Argentina-2023 this Friday in San Juan (West) to claim first place.
Kate Cowell (38) and Niko Jarkis (90+6) scored for the North American side in a narrow victory in numbers, creating several situations in which they never troubled an opponent.
With three wins in as many games, the United States have taken command of Group B and will open the Round of 16 next Tuesday at the Mendoza Stadium (West) when they face one of the four best third-placed players.
For their part, Slovakia were third, with just three points, and will have to wait to see if they qualify for the round of 16 as one of the top three sides.
