Epson strengthens its commitment to heatless inkjet technology and invests millions of dollars in the development of sustainable technologies

Argentina, March 2024 – As the commercial inkjet printer market continues to grow, Epson recognizes the strength of its inkjet technology and is committed to investing in it. Research firm IDC estimates that more than 255,000 A3 color multifunction printers are shipped annually in North America*. Epson will triple printhead production capacity and reaffirm its commitment to the development of PrecisionCore Heat-Free® inkjet technology and sustainable technologies. It supports an investment of $712.5 million over a previously announced ten-year period.

As part of this investment, Akita Epson Corporation, a Seiko Epson Corporation group company, has committed approximately $25.1 million to build a new factory on the Akita Epson lot. Construction of the new factory is scheduled to begin in November 2022 and be completed by December 2023. The investment will triple Akita Epson's current printhead production capacity.

“Hey mar From environmental efficiency to workflow efficiency, inkjet offers many advantages over traditional laser printers. In our experience, inkjet always wins, and Epson recognizes this incredible opportunity to disrupt the market . Epson is focused on changing the way we use energy, and we are committed to delivering innovative and efficient PrecisionCore heatless printing solutions. Looking ahead, this increase in production will have such a large impact on the market that it will justify the investment. Mark Matthews, vice president of North American business sales and marketing, Epson America, Inc.

Epson's Printing Solutions business provides products and services based on the original MicroPiezo inkjet technology for offices, homes, businesses and industries. Global demand for inkjet printers for home and office is expected to continue to grow in the medium to long term. Demand for distributed printing arising from the Covid-19 pandemic is helping to drive this demand, as is strong demand for high-capacity ink tank printers in North America and other developed economies.

The new factory will be used to manufacture and assemble inkjet print heads, the key components of inkjet printers. The investment plan will provide Epson with sufficient manufacturing space to meet expected future growth in demand. This will allow Epson to strengthen its product line and expand printhead sales to third parties, with the aim of increasing its offering of inkjet printers with next-generation PrecisionCore MicroTFP printheads.

Below are some of the advantages of Epson PrecisionCore heatless technology:

  • Save time with consistent, high-speed printing : Heat-free technology requires no heat when turning on or waking from sleep mode. This means printing starts immediately.
  • Low consumption which saves energy and money : Heatless technology has low energy consumption as it does not use heat for heating. Inkjet printers do not have a fuse unit for heating.
  • Fewer spare parts : Laser printers generally require more supplies and, in many cases, need to replace the drum, transfer belt, and fuse periodically. Thanks to heatless technology, Epson inkjet printers use few parts that need to be replaced.
  • Less intervention and more productivity – The heatless construction of Epson inkjet printers means there are fewer parts to fail, reducing the amount of intervention required.
