The food industry advocates universalization of technology through EFE in all its establishments

Bilbao, April 17 (EFE) -. Examples of all technologies related to digitization, sustainability or nutritional formulation can be found in the Spanish food sector, and the FIAB employers' association advocates for the universalization of its use throughout the commercial fabric.

This was explained to Efe by the director of R&D&i of the Spanish Food and Beverage Industry (FIAB), who will participate in various round tables at the Food4Future Congress, which will take place until tomorrow at the Bilbao Exhibitions Center.

According to data from FIAB, there are more than 30,000 companies in this sector, whose activity translates into production worth 144,000 million euros and half a million jobs.

The Spanish food sector has its own technology platform (Food For Life-Spain, led by FIAB), which has promoted 140 projects with 160 million euros in funding by 2023.

“This network is formed by 172 partners, most of them are industrial companies, but we are integrated with technology and research centers, universities …”, Kotilas said.

But, as he recalls, “the sector is very large and very diverse”, and there are “many examples” of technical challenges in the digitization of processes, data processing, environmental sustainability, use of products, personalized nutrition and consumer response. In a variable market.

In this sense, he highlighted the ability of the sector to adapt to the nutritional needs of different population groups due to age, culture, beliefs, physical activity or health: “It has always been at the forefront of trying to adapt quickly. As much as possible to market needs.

The platform consists of Ingenia and Outgenia programs for growing, national and international companies, with programs that have the potential to transform the food and beverage industry.

Not forgetting, according to Kotilas, the construction, distribution and restructuring with the primary sector; Research, development and innovation projects of interest to all can be implemented along the value chain and effective transfer of knowledge.

The role artificial intelligence will play in its future: “It is very interesting both in terms of management, digital solutions, learning…” he concluded, which should be relevant to the everyday life of companies.
