ProCiencia is Concytec’s operational organization promoting research and innovation in Peru. We work to strengthen the country’s scientific and technological capabilities and develop high-impact programs in various fields of knowledge.

ProCiencia, the management body of Concytec, announces the allocation of more than S/ 55 million in funding to 36 leading research and development laboratories. These projects, selected through the call for “Strengthening Laboratories”, address a variety of challenges, from environmental protection and food security to the advancement of genetics and nanomaterials. This represents an important step towards sustainable development and international competitiveness promoted by Peruvian laboratories.

The “Strengthening Laboratories” call awarded a total of 36 grants of up to S/ 1.85 million, exceeding S/ 55.5 million in total. The objective is to strengthen the technical capacities and capabilities of laboratories of public institutions that are members of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Organization (Sinacti) through the acquisition of specialized equipment and training of personnel. .

Concytec has prioritized the selection of laboratories dedicated to research in key areas including the low-carbon and climate-resilient economy, health and digital economy, and information and communication technologies (ICTs).

A notable fact is that 14 grants have been allocated to universities and research institutes located in 11 regions of Peru, adding a total of S/ 21.3 million to strengthen laboratories outside Lima. In addition, approximately 40% of successful projects and laboratories are led by Peruvian researchers, strengthening the representation of female scientists in the country’s STI ecosystem.

These projects are a model of research and development efforts in Peruvian laboratories covering various scientific disciplines. One of the highlights is the Peruvian Institute of Nuclear Energy’s “Strengthening Laboratory of Analytical Techniques,” which focuses on environmental protection, mitigating the effects of natural disasters and climate change, and improving water resource management through nuclear technology. . Another related project is the “implementation of a laboratory for the advanced analysis of volatile and non-volatile compounds of coffee and cocoa”, which will improve the quality and competitiveness of Peruvian products in international markets.

In addition, grants are earmarked for projects related to genetics, bioinformatics, new fluorescent materials, sustainable livestock systems, Peruvian alpaca conservation, nanomaterials research, microbiology, and food safety, all of which are fundamental to science and economics. Development of the country.

Together, these projects have the potential to improve Peru’s research and development capacity in various areas, leading to significant improvements in environmental protection, food security, competitiveness in the production of agricultural products, understanding of biodiversity and the development of advanced technologies. This will contribute to the sustainable growth and development of the country.

The 36 winning projects were selected from a list of more than 170 projects applied as of September 8, within the framework of a call created by Prociania’s Synacty II Strengthening Project.
