There is a new type of scam that is also reaching Argentina: they clone voices and use them to send messages on WhatsApp asking for money or some other kind of scam.
It’s a scam called vishing, and cases are being filed across the country, with situations that are too complicated to stop.
In the city of Mar del Plata, lawyer Rodrigo Pionda, a cybercrime prevention expert, made recommendations to focus on sophisticated tactics linked to artificial intelligence.
“We should not believe everything we see and hear,” said the expert.

“If the recording is about half a minute, you can’t tell if it’s real or not. “I tested a video call with a paid version of artificial intelligence, and I can’t tell if we’re ahead. The original person,” explained the lawyer.
The term is derived from the combination of the two words ‘voice’ and ‘phishing’ and refers to a type of threat that combines a fraudulent phone call with information obtained from the Internet.
Scammers with artificial intelligence (AI) cloned voices use this technology to clone voices, impersonate family members or friends, and trick victims.
According to a recent survey conducted by McAfee, 77% of victims of this type of fraud ended up sending money.
