Tony Yaiben debuts as soloist: “An artist always wants to grow professionally” | yaipen brothers | programs

Mindful of how difficult his path as a soloist would be, Tony Yaiben made a firm decision to embark on this new aspect of his musical career. After 20 years with ‘Hermanos Yaipén’, the singer decided to leave the most important cumbia group in our country to grow as an artist. Diario Corio spoke to him about his beginnings, the release of his first album and future plans in music.

Aside from growing up in a family of musicians, what inspired you to pursue a career in the arts?

All my life I lived next to music. I have always been associated with my father, uncles and cousins in that environment since childhood. We grow up in that world that we carry in our blood and dream of doing more things in music.

Regarding your sudden departure from “Hermanos Yaipén”, was it very difficult to make that decision?

I decided knowing that this road would be tough. An artist always wants to do bigger things to grow professionally. That led me to take that decision.

How did your father get the news?

My dad was the first to agree and the first day I told him, he supported me. I think others expected this too, it was discussed long ago. It was a quiet decision on both sides, no discussion or anything that kept us on this path. It was taken because things happened that way, and I think the circumstances allowed for this decision.

What rhythms can we find in your songs? Will there be combinations of different types?

Now I have the main instrument, the accordion, and I’m adding fusions with Colombian music, without leaving the romantic side of the lyrics that people want to dedicate to. I like to talk about love and sing to couples, you can find such songs in my first album, which I will finish and release soon. I’m not too close to doing different genres, on stage we do everything and for my album, I want to record everything and combine it with other artists.

Do you have a release date for your debut album?

We plan to release the entire album on June 15 across all digital platforms. Then the video clips of the songs will be uploaded for people to enjoy.

Which collaboration will you surprise your followers with? Maybe a topic with your cousin Christian Yapen?

This album is entirely my solo release and I have to sing all the songs for it. We plan to collaborate with other artists from the second album, but that will be next year.

Did you feel nervous before your first concert as a soloist?

There’s always nerves, little things that go in your stomach, but that’s part of our career and I think being respectful to the public and everything goes well in the presentation. Personally, I am like that, I like to keep everything organized and perfect, sometimes there are always flaws, but we always try to improve.

Do you think that cumbia has regained its validity after the success of Grupo 5’s three concerts for 50 years?

Cumbia has always been there, and what’s happening is that Grupo 5 dared to do these three concerts, and I don’t think it was easy for them. Imagine a lot has happened in 50 years and they have achieved a lot. I’m sure they’ve been able to fill these concerts before, but it was a great date. The love and respect of the public is the greatest thing artists have. Cumbia is everywhere, if you go to a social party there are salsa people who like all kinds of music, but there is always a cumbia to dance to.

What are your next presentations?

Thank God, we’re closing some deals, we’ve closed some dates before we even start, which is great because people hire me without knowing the show we’re going to put on. It makes me very happy because they believe in my work and experience. On June 17th we showed up in Supe, and on July 1st and 22nd we were in Huancayo, and maybe we’ll close some overseas on national holidays.
