APEC Peru 2024 | Reveal the million-dollar investment in dollars the country has received from previous presidents | President’s House | economy

As Peru assumes the presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for the third time until 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed the million dollar investment that previous events have left for the country.

As recalled, Peru already assumed the APEC chairmanship in 2008 and 2016. The Ministry of External Affairs highlights that the two presidents have left over USD 9.4 billion in investments in the country.

Now, with the third administration due next November, our country’s position in the above region has been highlighted.

Ambassador Carlos Chávez-Tafar, Chairman of the APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Task Force, emphasized this presidency. “It positions us strategically” and contributes to the post-pandemic economic recovery.

In addition, it promotes the image of Peru as a place to do business and improves the conditions for the creation of a large number of economic and technical cooperation projects funded by APEC.

Incorporated since 1998

Since we joined this forum in 1998, Peru’s trade with the 21 APEC economies has grown by 12% per year, according to ComexPeru. Additionally, according to 2022 statistics, 67% of Peru’s trade will occur with APEC economies.

He recalled that in 2016, the regions that hosted the forum generated about US$20 million in tourism, food, transport, security and temporary job creation. During Peru’s presidency of APEC, more than 33 thousand recognitions were registered among delegates, businessmen and journalists.

Approved projects

Chávez-Tafar also said that the organization of APEC Peru 2024 has already begun to develop the approval of APEC’s plans. Last May, 10 cooperation projects were approved, amounting to approximately 1,150,000 dollars. Last June, more than 30 additional projects were submitted for APEC funding.

On the other hand, he noted that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, will hand over the presidency of APEC 2024 to Peru next November. Following that, from December to November 2024, there will be a summit of senior officials, ministers and the long-awaited 21 APEC Economic Leaders.
